Built around an evolved Hyperglide+ tooth profile, redesigned spider architecture and a leaner all-up weight, this 10-51T block is sharper under power, calmer under impact and ready to extract every watt the rider has on tap. From punching up a sustained fire road to dumping six cogs at the bottom of a chute, the CS-M8200 makes the drivetrain feel deliberate rather than reactive. It is fast, it is precise, and it has a clear chip on its shoulder about the cassette it replaces. Evolved Hyperglide+ shifting under load Shimano has reworked the cog tooth profiles and shift ramp geometry across the entire cluster. Every cog carries its own unique pickup pattern, engineered to grab the chain cleanly even when the rider is hammering the pedals. The result is faster, quieter, more predictable shifts under high torque, with none of the slip-thud feedback that can creep in on heavily loaded climbs. 510% gear range, zero compromises The 10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-33-39-45-51T spread delivers a true 510% range, the widest in the Deore XT family and the most accommodating for full-suspension and hardtail frame compatibility. There is a granny gear for survival climbs, a 10T top end for redlining flat singletrack, and a tight, intuitive jump pattern through the middle ratios where most of the riding actually happens. Strategic steel and alloy construction Shimano has stuck with its proven mixed-material recipe_ hardened steel cogs through the high-load sprockets for durability, alloy at the larger cogs to keep rotating mass in check. Pairs cleanly with existing M8100 mechanical derailleurs, shifters and HG+ chains, so it can be slotted into a current drivetrain as a standalone upgrade. Micro Spline freehub fitment The CS-M8200 mounts to Shimano's Micro Spline freehub body standard, the splined interface developed specifically to allow a 10T smallest cog on a Shimano-pattern hub. Riders moving across from an older HG freehub will need a Micro Spline-compatible rear hub or freehub conversion, but the payoff is a stiffer, lower-flex interface and full access to the current XT and XTR 12-speed range. E-MTB and Autoshift ready The updated Hyperglide+ profile is fully compatible with Shimano's Autoshift function on EP-series motors, allowing the system to time gear changes intelligently for cleaner power delivery and reduced drivetrain wear on e-MTB platforms.
