Shimano M05 Disc Brake Pads - Steel Backed Metal When the weather turns filthy and the descents get long, resin pads start asking for a rest. The Shimano M05 doesn't. This is the genuine sintered metal pad for Shimano's B-type two-piston calipers the same fitment as the B01S and B05S resin pads, but built for riders who put their brakes through proper punishment. Metal compound, steel backing plate, pad spring included. No drama, just stopping power that holds up. Sintered Metal Compound - Built for Abuse Sintered pads are made by fusing metallic particles under heat and pressure, and the result is a pad that thrives where resin fades. Expect stronger bite in the wet, far better resistance to heat build-up on sustained descents, and significantly longer pad life in gritty, muddy conditions. The trade-off is a touch more noise and a sharper initial bite a swap most hard-riding and winter-commuting riders make without a second thought. Resin or Metal? Same shape, different character. The B05S resin pad is quieter with more progressive modulation ideal for dry-weather trail riding and lighter use. The M05 metal pad wins on wet-weather power, fade resistance and longevity. Many bikes fitted with MT200 and similar brakes come with rotors marked "Resin Pad Only" (such as the SM-RT10 and SM-RT26) fitting metal pads to these rotors will rapidly destroy the braking surface. Check the rotor face for markings before fitting. If the rotor is resin-only, either stick with the B05S resin pad or upgrade the rotor at the same time.
