Silca Ultimate Chain Waxing System The Silca Ultimate Chain Wax System, when utilised with Silca’s own Secret Chain Blend Hot Wax and StripChip Hot Melt Chain Degreaser, enables you to degrease and wax a new bike chain with minimal effort and no preparatory steps. It comprises a Chain Coupler attached to a Chain Hanging Stand, along with a Wax Melter. The Wax Melter is placed within the stand and filled with 300g of Secret Chain Blend Hot Wax, leaving a 20mm gap at the top of the pot. For simultaneous degreasing and waxing Increase the temperature beyond its automatic 75°C to 125°C. Once the wax begins to melt, add one piece of StripChip on top of the wax. Allow the wax and Hot Melt Chain Degreaser to fully liquefy, ensuring the StripChip is no longer visible. Then, use a cable coupler to immerse your chain into the mixture, passing it through five to six links of the chain, spaced apart to allow sufficient coverage. Gently agitate it for 30 seconds, taking care not to splatter wax outside the Wax Melter, then leave it for 10 minutes. Afterward, agitate the chain for another 30 seconds, then reduce the machine's temperature back to 75°C. Once it reaches this temperature, which should take approximately 10 minutes, it's safe to use the cable coupler to remove the chain and hang it on a waxing stand to dry, before switching off the Wax Melter. Allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes before handling or installing it on your bike. Please note, it's advisable to articulate each link before installation to break down the wax, and it may take 10-20 minutes of pedalling to properly break in the new chain. If degreasing and waxing without StripChip Degreasing without StripChip necessitates an additional step and a bottle of Silca’s Ultimate Chain Stripper + Wax Prep. You have two options: either add the Ultimate Chain Stripper to an Ultra-Sonic cleaner for optimal results or use a glass jar with a tightly fitting lid. Pour in 29ml of the solution, immerse the chain, and shake. Subsequently, let it soak for 10 minutes to ensure the solution permeates every part of the chain, then agitate again. Dispose of the stripper, rinse and agitate the chain in water, repeating the rinsing process twice more. Finally, remove the chain and thoroughly dry it with a microfibre towel before waxing. Waxing the chain without StripChip Arrange the chain on the cable coupler, passing it through five or six links and allowing the excess chain to hang. Immerse the chain in the molten wax, melted at the standard 75°C. However, leave a portion of the coupler above the surface for easy retrieval. Agitate the chain in the wax using the cable coupler until no more air bubbles emerge, indicating complete penetration of wax between the rollers and pins of the chain. Slowly lift the chain and hang it from the drip stand by the cable coupler to allow excess wax to drip into the pot. Again, let it cool for 10-15 minutes before handling or installing it on your bike. Please note, articulating each link before installation is recommended to facilitate wax breakdown, and it may take 10-20 minutes of pedalling to properly break in the new chain. Quick Link If your chain features a quick link, it is unsuitable for immersion in Hot Melt Wax. Instead, apply Silca Super Secret Wax Lube Chain Coating after installing the newly waxed chain.
