The Continental Competition is a robust all-rounder that appears at the sharp end of major cycling races around the world. It is agile, fast, and adapts to the competition in all road conditions.The rolling properties of the rubber compound of a tire are primarily determined by three interacting factors: stiction (grip), rolling resistance, and mileage (longevity). Continental's Black Chili compound, a tread compound based on the latest knowledge of polymers and raw material research, provides an enduring solution. Depending on the application, the compound formulation is adjusted for the specific discipline. For Black Chili, special synthetic rubbers are refined with proven natural rubber to create high-performance tread mixtures, which are then enhanced with soot particles optimised in shape and surface properties.Vectran� is spun from liquid crystal-polymer to create a thermoplastic, multiple-thread yarn. This partially crystalline fabric is more cut-resistant than aramide and its tensile strength is five times higher than that of steel.
