They need a tube that is as durable as they are, the UltraProtect. Road cyclists like it fast - preferably on very good, smooth tarmac. Speed junkies can drive their competitors dizzy with the ultra-light AERON/TPU SuperLite Race inner tube, which weighs just 22 grams. The cycling world is facing a kind of turning point, at least when it comes to bicycle inner tubes. The good old black butyl tube could - and probably should - soon be a thing of the past. This is because thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) can be used to make bicycle inner tubes that are particularly light, fast, robust or durable, depending on your requirements. Even a good mix of all these properties is possible. Why TPU inner tubes for Road Bikes:- Thermoplastic polyurethane is an all-round performer, so to speak. Its properties - provided you have the right manufacturing methods - allow you to equip the inner tube with various capabilities. For example, AERON/TPU road bike inner tubes can be very fast and light and Aeron mountain bike inner tubes can be extremely robust. What´s more, Aeron/TPU inner tubes can even combine several desired properties thanks to their outstanding manufacturing methods.Which Road Bike inner tube is best for you:- Aeron/TPU bicycle inner tubes are available in many different sizes. The tyre width can also be selected so that they are suitable for most clincher tyres and rims. The valve length can also be selected from a range of common sizes and lengths. Now you need to analyse yourself, your riding style and your desired riding behaviour and then draw up an analysis of your requirements. If you don´t want to compromise on speed and rolling resistance in a race, then you should take a look at the Aeron-Ultra-lite-protect. If, on the other hand, you are travelling on a long tour and want to avoid flat feet as much as possible, then the Aeron-TPU Ultra-Protect is more suitable for you.Are Road Bike TPU inner tubes better:- Definitely. TPU tubes are significantly lighter than butyl tubes. While a road bike tyre made of the well-known material weighs around 120 grams, a comparably wide TPU inner tube weighs between 25 and 40 grams (including valve). Incidentally, the TPU tube also performs better in terms of weight when compared with a tubeless system in which between 30 and 60 millimetres/gram of sealing milk plus valve are used. But TPU tubes are not only lighter, they also rub less against the carcass of the road bike tyre and therefore have better rolling characteristics - whether on the road or on gravel. The TPU tube has further advantages in terms of puncture resistance, pack size and sustainability. How do I find the perfect tyre pressure for my road bike:- Tyre pressure on road bikes has its own history. In the past, racing cyclists and especially professionals pumped up to 11 or even 12 bar into their tubular tyres, which are only 18 millimetres wide (a tyre in which the tube is sewn directly to the casing to form a single unit. These tyres were and are glued to a fairly flat convex rim without clincher hooks). This was followed by times when athletes were also happy with 8 bar in the tyre. Today, it can ultimately be said that the pressure in the tyre depends on the rider´s weight and the tyre width. The narrower the tyre, the higher the air pressure:- The same applies to the weight of the rider: the heavier the tyre, the higher the pressure. If you ride tubeless, you can deflate your tyres considerably, if only because you don´t have to worry about so-called snakebites (a double hole in the inner tube because it is pressed onto both sides of the rim when you ride over a kerb, for example). A rough guide: A rider weighing 100 kilograms (including clothing, shoes and helmet) should be riding on 32-millimetre-wide rims with an air pressure of around 5.7 bar. For lighter riders, around 0.5 bar of air pressure can be released every 10 to 12 kilograms less. Incidentally, TPU tubes are run at a similar pressure to the old butyl tubes.Which hose is the right one for which application:- As already mentioned, an Aeron/TPU inner tube can really be customised. With this in mind, Aeron-TPU offers tyres for MTB, gravel, road, city and touring. These are not only available in different widths and wheel sizes, they also come in different categories, from super light models optimised for rolling resistance to very robust tubes that can take on anything, even off-road. Of course, there are also different valves with different valve lengths.SuperLite Race:- Super-light and puncture-proof –for racing and performance use. All SuperLite Race tubes are equipped with an aluminum valve stem.- Area of application: CX/Gravel, MTB, Road- Features: Super light, Super compact- Protection level: 2ExtraLite Protect:- Best combination of puncture protection, low weight and low rolling resistance- Area of application: CX/Gravel, MTB, Road- Features: Endurance / High Performance- Protection level: 3UltraProtect:- Uncompromising puncture protection for the highest safety requirements- Area of application: City/Tour, CX/Gravel, MTB, Road- Features: Maximum protection, Ultra airtight- Protection level: 6Level 2: Race / Maximum Performance:- Superlight weight with fastest rolling performance and high puncture resistance in a micro packed size.Level 3: Endurance / High Performance:- Perfect balance of extra-high puncture resistance with extralight weight and fast rolling performance.Level 6: Durability / Performance:- Uncompromising combination of ultra high puncture resistance and ultra durability with maximum air retention and light weight.TPU-Material of the future:- Imagine a material incredibly light, almost as weightless as the air it contains. Imparting suppleness when comfort is needed. Lightweight when a mountain climb is approaching, or when wheels need to spin quickly to the finish line. Impenetrably strong when endurance is the task or when the road or trail turns rough. And sustainable to be remade again and again.- Due to its unique material properties, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) offers exclusive advantages for the development and manufacture of bicycle inner tubes. What is Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU):- The well-known hoses are being replaced by TPU hoses. This is because TPU - thermoplastic polyurethane - has many advantages over the black rubber hose. But what is TPU anyway? Thermoplastics are plastics that deform when heated and solidify when they cool down. TPU has long been used in manufacturing for the automotive, transport, aerospace, sports equipment and medical device industries. TPU combines the high durability of plastic parts with the elasticity of rubber, making it the ideal material for applications that require repeated bending or compression of parts. Due to its elasticity, TPU is often used as an impact modifier in products such as helmets, protective packaging, vibration damping products or seals. TPU also has excellent abrasion resistance and is therefore used in applications with high friction (e.g. interior components of vehicles) or for electrical cables and insulation.Aeron/TPU Core Technologies:- Multi Layer:- Aeron/TPU manufacturing technology allows multilayer construction within an Airtube.Anti-slip coating:- The specially designed Aeron/TPU valve stems guarantee optimum pump head interface and retention.Heavy Duty Bond:- Aeron/TPU valve cores are permanently bonded to ensure reliable and long-lasting performance.Micro Welding System:- Aeron/TPU valve bases are mechanically heat bonded to endure demanding leak testing.Smart Quality Control:- Every Aeron/TPU Airtube is subjected to strict quality controls.Aluminum Valve Stem:- High-end aluminum valve stem. Perfect combination of lightweight construction, durability and flawless finish. Are TPU inner tubes better than classic butyl bicycle inner tubes:- Yes, TPU bicycle inner tubes such as those from Aeron-TPU can be created or engineered, so to speak. This means that engineers can give a bicycle inner tube exactly the attributes that the rider needs for the application in question. Of course, a TPU inner tube can be produced in different sizes and widths and also with a desired valve. But there´s more: a TPU inner tube can be produced in such a way that it offers more or less puncture protection, it can be heavier or lighter and, of course, come in different colours. Many tests carried out by independent institutes and test magazines ultimately clearly show the advantages of bicycle inner tubes made of TPU over those made of butyl.Lighter: lower weight:- Aeron/TPU Airtubes are on average two thirds lighter than comparable butyl bicycle tubes. TPU tubes are significantly lighter than butyl tubes. While a road bike tyre made of the well-known material weighs around 120 grams, a TPU inner tube of comparable width weighs between 25 and 40 grams (including valve). Incidentally, the TPU tube also performs better in comparison with a tubeless system in which between 30 and 60 millimetres/gram of sealant plus valve are used.Work with less pressure:- TPU inner tubes require less air pressure than butyl tyres. Due to the high surface tension and strength of the material, the tyre develops good stability even at low air pressure. It is therefore already well formed at less than one bar, when a butyl tyre is still flabby. With the TPU tube, lower pressures can also be used in the tyre casing, which significantly increases comfort when riding.Better puncture protection:- TPU is far ahead of butyl here too. Due to high elasticity and material strength, Aeron/TPU Airtubes have extremely high puncture protection. TPU is more resistant to tears and cuts compared to conventional rubber inner tubes. If you want to puncture a TPU tube with a needle, for example, you need three to four times as much force to punch a hole in the material compared to a butyl tube. Even when it comes to the risk of so-called snakebite - when the tube is subjected to high pressure, it punctures the rim of the rim and creates two holes - the TPU tube impresses with its greater inherent stability and performs significantly better than a butyl tube. In fact, manufacturers can even produce their TPU inner tubes in multiple layers and thus improve the resistance of their products enormously. If a TPU inner tube does have to accept a hole, it can be repaired easily, cleanly and quickly with self-adhesive patches - no more roughening the surface as with butyl tubes, no more glue on your fingers.Lower Rolling Resistance:- Aeron/TPU Airtubes absorb less energy, which significantly reduces rolling resistance.Less air loss:- Aeron/TPU Airtubes retain air significantly longer than butyl bicycle tubes. TPU tubes have a lower permeability compared to some rubber tubes. This means that they are less susceptible to air loss, which has a positive effect on tyre pressure and riding characteristics. They are also more resistant to weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold.TPU inner tubes are ridden with a similar air pressure to butyl inner tubes:- Depending on the tyre width, cyclists can therefore ride with 1.5 to over 3 bar air pressure (this is an example to illustrate this). What´s more, TPU inner tubes can even be ridden at very low pressures without immediately collapsing - although this would of course increase the risk of punctures. What´s more, as already mentioned, TPU inner tubes can be created, i.e. equipped with special properties such as good rolling resistance or optimised puncture protection.Heat-resistant even with rim brakes:- TPU Bicycle inner tubes can also be risen with rim brakes. Bicycle inner tubes made of thermoplastic polyurethane can withstand even high levels of heat. With this in mind, they can be mounted on a rim or a wheel with disc brakes or rim brakes.More sustainable:- Both butyl and TPU inner tubes can be recycled. However, TPU products leave a significantly lower CO2 footprint during manufacturing. This is due to the raw material and the lower weight. Less water is also used in the production of TPU hoses. TPU is a pure material and can be 100 percent recycled into raw materials for the production of new TPU tubes. Significantly less water is required during production compared to the production of butyl bicycle tubes. This is another big advantage of TPU over butyl inner tubes. Butyl can be shredded and then only used as filler material, for example in shock absorption mats or possibly during tyre production. Old TPU inner tubes, on the other hand, can be shredded, then heated and melted down before a new inner tube is made from the material.Smaller pack size:- Aeron/TPU Airtubes can be rolled up tightly into an incredibly compact size. Even if there are die-hard tubeless fans out there, a puncture in open terrain is a problem, and if you can´t close the hole even with a tyre plug kit, you´ll need a spare tube. A TPU inner tube is also much better than a butyl tube for this purpose, as it is not only lighter than the rubber product, but also packs down much smaller. This is an advantage for all cyclists, but especially for bikepackers who have to carry a lot of luggage on their bikes on long tours anyway.
