Product Description

Eat My Dust The Crux 5 S-Level was born from the fastest gravel race bike ever made. Not just because it’s the lightest. Not just because it’s our most aero. Not just because it handles dirt like a Tarmac handles pavement. But because it delivers the lowest real-world Time to Finish of any gravel bike ever made. Crux 5 turns more of your effort into pure speed—validated across real race courses real terrain and real riders. When the goal is the top step nothing in gravel gets you there faster. At a Glance Use - Gravel Racing Frame - FACT 10r Carbon: 897 grams Wheels - Roval Terra Aero CL Bar and Stem - Roval Terra Integrated Drivetrain - SRAM RED XPLR Weight - 7.7 kg 9:58 Faster Over Unbound Unbound Winner Sofía Gómez Villafañe’s Time to Finish at Unbound would be 9:58 faster on the Crux 5. So what happens when we run the Equation of Speed with: 15.2 watts less aerodynamic drag A 789 gram frame 56cm S-Works 6.9 kg system weight Hyper-accurate surface telemetry Elite rider power profiles 9:58 saved. Racing the 2025 Unbound on a 2026 Crux 5 would save Sofía Gómez Villafañe over 9:58—purely through equipment efficiency. This level of simulation may be unique in cycling but not in other elite sport. Both Formula 1 and America’s Cup sailing utilize simulation extensively to benchmark and refine performance. Hyper-accurate simulation has been one of the key reasons both of these sports have seen such massive leaps in performance. The Equation of Speed Just like the Tarmac before it Crux 5 was developed using the Equation of Speed—not a tagline but a literal equation that determines how fast a rider completes a course. Time to Finish The output of this equation is Time to Finish over a real course. Every variable is measured independently then integrated into a single simulation. While the equation may be the same across road and gravel what moves the needle is not. On gravel with slower speeds and higher rolling resistance for instance reducing overall package weight is far more important than on the road. It’s this deep understanding of the forces that impact Time to Finish that guided the creation of Crux 5. A System of Speed Aero Gains Breakdown: Frame fork and seatpost: 50%. Roval Terra Aero wheels: 30%. Roval Terra cockpit: 20% Crux 5 is the most aerodynamic gravel race bike we’ve ever tested. Drawing directly from Tarmac SL8 learnings and decades of aero research every tube on Crux 5 was sculpted for speed at elite gravel race speeds. Aero Gains Breakdown: Frame fork and seatpost: 50% Roval Terra Aero wheels: 30% Roval Terra cockpit: 20% *15.2 watts as spec’d with our Moving Leg Mannequin at 45 kph. Results may vary up or down depending on individual riders. The Science Club at our Morgan Hill Innovation Center built mules—preliminary test prototypes that bonded parts of the Crux 4 with parts of the Tarmac SL8. From a Crux 4 with a Tarmac SL8 seat tube and seat post to a full Tarmac SL8 rear end bonded to a Crux front triangle with a custom aero fork the Science Club began to hybridize road-level aero gains with gravel-light weight savings. All those aero gains were validated with the Moving Leg Mannequin because being fast without a rider is meaningless. Moving Leg Mannequin Win Tunnel testing incorporates our 6th Gen Moving Leg Mannequin. Rider Inclusive Aerodynamics No gravel bike is raced without a rider—and no aero data is meaningful without one either. That’s why our Win Tunnel testing incorporates our Moving Leg Mannequin now in its sixth generation. Unlike static mannequins or bike-only testing this system captures how a rider’s full body in motion alters airflow across the bike at race-relevant speeds. The new sixth generation Moving Leg Mannequin delivers: Increased repeatability Reduced test-to-test variance More accurate rider-inclusive CdA values A rider’s legs in motion dramatically change the airflow. Any aero calculations that omit this key factor are incomplete.  "Our mannequin system’s sixth generation was purpose built using over a dozen years of experience win tunnel engineering to be the most precise repeatable and realistic way to test a bike period. It is not just about having a realistic mannequin it’s about having an entire system built from the ground up to make sure every time we place a bike under the mannequin the mannequin is in exactly the correct position and completely supported. If the mannequin’s position is off by even half a centimeter it can make a bigger drag difference than swapping the bike it’s riding”. - Lionello Bardina RandD Engineer Aerodynamics Nothing is Lighter Flow State Design delivers a 897 gram frame. Flow State Design At 897 grams the Crux 5 FACT 10r frame is one of the very lightest on gravel. Complete builds start at 7.7 kg—a number many road bikes envy and lighter than most top tier gravel bikes. Shape Carries Load - Not Material While studying frame behavior under load our engineers noticed consistent deformation patterns—frames weren’t just ‘breathing’ under load they were communicating. We fed this insight into our supercomputer alongside the largest mechanical test dataset in cycling. The result: tube shapes precisely tuned to carry load efficiently. By optimizing shape instead of adding material we eliminated unnecessary carbon layers. The outcome: Lighter frame Better ride quality Improved structural integrity Our 897 gram FACT 10r frame withstands over 100000 cycles at 2377 watts*—far beyond industry standards. *Equivalent to 170mm cranks at 100 rpm.
