The updated aluminium frame is lighter than before, making it easier for smaller riders to handle, while its geometry is tailored to give stable, predictable control. A rigid alloy fork keeps the setup simple, lightweight, and easy to manage.At this stage, simplicity is key, so the J.16 uses a single-speed drivetrain. This keeps pedalling straightforward, without the distraction of gears, while still being efficient enough for young legs to enjoy longer rides. The chain is fully enclosed in a guard to protect little hands, keep clothing clean, and reduce maintenance.Stopping is safe and easy thanks to child-specific Tektro brakes, with shorter levers designed to suit small hands. Lightweight aluminium wheels fitted with 16” kid-specific tyres roll quickly but with enough grip for a mix of playground surfaces, park paths and family rides.Merida haven’t overlooked the details: the finishing kit, from the narrow bars to the short cranks, is designed for young riders to feel comfortable and in control.
